Happy Humpday ya'll! It's Wednesday, and my boss is out of town at a meeting, which makes for a relaxing day for yours truly. And to top it all off, I have a lunch date. Exciting, isn't it.

Last night, I washed and straightened my hair, painted my nails, and all that jazz. I spent FOREVER flatiron-curling it this morning, and look quite awesome, if I do say so myself. So imagine the sheer joy I felt when I walked outside and got smacked in the face with the wet washcloth we call carolina humidity....

No problem, I used extra John Frieda Frizz Control products, and it's all good. Or so I thought. As I type this, the bottom has fallen out of the sky, and it is pouring buckets. I go to check my coif in ladies room, and while I still have big bouncy curls on the left, the right side is slowly dying a horrible death.....damn you mother nature. *shakes fist at sky*

Now I sorta wished I was one of "those" girls, and had an extra curling iron in my desk drawer. Guess what I'll be buyin this week. Thank goodness I actually have an umbrella in my office today. Maybe if I cross my fingers and wish realllllllly hard, the rain will stop in the next 15 minutes before I have to leave......

Today is my birthday! Yippee! I love my birthday, and celebrate it for one week before, and one week after. My mother thinks it's insane, but hey, you gotta find happiness somewhere right?

All through college, I was greeted with "Happy 4-20." Yeah, great, go smoke weed on the mall, but dammit, it's my birthday and I want to hear "Happy Birthday." My friends now know better than to not say Happy Birthday....

I once had a boss (we'll call her Nancy) who told me a girl should always buy herself a little something pretty for her birthday. And in true diva fashion, when my daughter was born, Nancy brought her an adorable little outfit, and shared the same wisdom with her.

As I've grown, (and made my own money) my tastes have gotten more expensive, but I still enjoy getting pricey things for thrifty prices. This year, I bought 2 beautiful leather handbags by Hayden Harnett, and some pretty beaded necklaces with matching bracelets.

Tonight, I'll go to Hooters, eat steamed shrimp and wings, and drink a couple of Big Daddy's to celebrate. Yep, that's right, celebrate, cuz we know how much I like to eat, and well I did go to the #1 party school on the east coast.

When I turned 30, I had a mini meltdown. I was getting old; I was an adult; There are no more exciting milestones, as 16, 18 and 21 were long gone. I still look like I'm 15, and I'm thankful for that more and more as I see people my age who look like they could very well be my mother.

So yes, I'm getting older, but I choose to embrace it and celebrate. After all, the alternative to getting older is getting dead, and we don't want that round here any time soon.

It's another day in the world of the pig...and don't I sound excited. I know, I have so much to be thankful for. I get this, I do, and I am, really, but sometimes, I just want to run away from it all. Life with a toddler is tons of fun. Especially when said toddler is sick, with a snotty nose that she doesn't yet know how to blow. You know what that means right? Good 'ole Mr. Aspirator to the rescue. Now I would like to point out that trying to use this thing on a mini human is similar to trying to drown a cat. They scream, they run, they scratch, claw and bite, all the while insuring that the neighbors think you abuse children, because really, they sound like you're trying to kill them. Great way to start a morning, huh? If I could just figure out a way to inject her meds into chocolate, we' d be good to go...

So yeah, it's been a while....how's everyone doing? And by everyone, I pretty much mean Sarah, my one and only follower, and the 3 or 4 lurkers who have commented on a post I've written....

Well, Piggy is back! I've realized that blogging is much like keeping a diary when I was younger. And I miss it, so dear blogosphere, you're stuck with reading more about my life (or lack thereof) and having my views and opinions shoved oh-so-gracefully down your throat...cuz this is the internets, and we can do that.

I've recently come across a few blogs that, while could technically be called mommy blogs, they are funny, and irreverent, and snarky, and dammit, just make me laugh.

First up, Mary Anne at The Stiletto Mom (www.thestilettomom.com). Let me tell you, I laughed my ass off, I cried, and laughed some more. See despite my super-cool exterior, and amazing aura of confidence, I have doubts. I don't always think I'm the greatest mom, or best daughter, or model employee, and that can get you a little down. Add to that my non-existent social life and you've got me all ready to pack up and run away. Is it really that bad? No, probably not, but that doesn't make it any less real. And then I read about how Mary Anne is so winning the mother of the year award and I realize, you know what? Being a mom is tough....not just for me, but ALL moms, and we make it through, because that's what moms do. And then all is right with the world and I feel a little better.

Next we have Lynn at All Fooked Up (www.allfookedup.com). I mean seriously, the name alone can make you smile. I found Lynn through The Stiletto Mom, and she is just as hilarious. And real....she curses, she's sarcastic and unapologetic. I love it. I have done zero work today thanks to catching up on all her posts I never knew I wanted to read....

so, now that my little rant is over, I'd like to conclude by saying I've missed the blogosphere, and I'm back bitches!

There are those people who look in the mirror, and despite desperately needing to eat something, anything, they see a huge grotesque blob in the mirror....my heart breaks for those girls...I cannot imagine how difficult life must be for them, to constantly see something in their reflection that makes them soooo unhappy.

Then there's me....

I look in the mirror and go, "wow, I look really good. You can hardly tell I recently had a baby. I'm not any bigger than I was before she was born." Unfortunately, that is not reality...I am bigger....MUCH bigger. Is that a bad thing? Depends on who you ask I guess.

I guess you could say I'm in denial....

I had been convincing myself that it wasn't me, it was the designers who were cutting clothes smaller and smaller....choosing to ignore the sodas and icees and french fries that are a major part of my diet as possible culprits.

As part of my journey to fat acceptance, I have been reading lots of blogs...most of the girls on these blogs wear things that I would never ever think of wearing. My thought process went somewhere along the lines of "body con? why would you ever want to wear something so clingy if you are overweight?" I guess, this logic is based in part because of my mother's influence, and the fact that I myself am not comfortable with my body or size....

And then this weekend, the proverbial shit hit the fan....and a light bulb came on...

I was in the dressing room trying on a sleeveless top I thought would look cute under a jacket. Not loose and flowy, it was fitted, but still loose enough that if I stood still and sucked it all in and held my breath, I could pretend I was "skinny." It was a pretty color, nice fabric and on super sale...I was all set to fork over the cash and then..... "oh no, that is waaay too tight...you can't wear that" comes out of my mom's mouth. And I didn't buy it....

As I walked away, I started to simmer...then boil...and then it all spilled over. I had reached my breaking point. I know my mom only wants what's best for me...I know she wants me to look my best when I go out to face the world...but really, am I the one with the problem for having a gut that the world can see rounding out my shirt, or is the world the one with the problem for thinking that I can or should only wear certain things? (*sidenote: mom doesn't get on me about my weight because "skinny" is more attractive or anything like that...there's a long line of weight related health issues e.g. diabetes, CAD, etc, on both sides of the family, especially women; I'm a single mom of a little girl who needs me around; and my mom is plus sized too and she knows first hand the physical health issues she's had as a result of her weight)

I have big boobs. I am proud of my girls. They are mine, they are real (real hard to find bras for too but I digress) and they are beautiful. Why should I be any less proud of my wide hips or big thighs or rounded tummy?

Do I want to lose weight? Yes, but because my ankles and knees hurt from carrying my weight; because I don't want to develop diabetes and have to take tons of medications; because I don't want my heart to give out before it's time; because I need to be here to see my baby girl grow up.

In the meantime however, shouldn't I be happy to be me and wear things that make me happy? Even if me being happy means wearing a shirt you think is a little too tight over my tummy, or pants that prove I have a big butt, or a dress that shows I have both big boobs and wide hips?

I think so.....and quite frankly, I don't care if you do or not.

I, like most women I know (especially those with children), have a little extra to love around the middle. My thigh slimmers and power panties help conceal the extra jiggle and give me nice smooth panty-line free pants, but they do not help with the muffin top. Enter the Kymaro bodyshaper. After watching the infomercial at least 20 times, and scouring the web for info and opinions about it, I broke down and bought one.

As with anything, there are positives and there are negatives. Unfortunately, in my humble little opinion, the negatives outweigh the positives.

Positives

Eliminates rolls in from back fat
Minimizes muffin top
No panty lines
Minimizes belly pooch

Negatives

Bottoms are not as "compressing" as the Hanes slimmers I already own.
Top will not stay down--rolls up
Bottoms are not high enough to stay over chub, and not low enough to stay under it.
Straps on top show under tanks--they are a little wider set on the shoulder and therefore show.
Top is hard to wiggle into--and harder to get out of. YOu have to step into it. Easier for a size 6 than a 16 I'm sure.
Hot! My temperature must have gone up exponentially after the aerobics workout I used to get into it.
Kind of uncomfortable.

So, enthused as I was about this, I give the Kymaro an overall No...

If you just want smoothing and don't really have any "fat" issues, maybe this will work for you, but if you're bigger than the infomercial girl in the little black dress, I suggest trying something different.

I'd be willing to try again if Kymaro found a way to combine the top and bottom into a "leotard" type smoother, still stopping under the bust so you can wear your own bra. That, I think, would work.

I work at a conservative office, and even with me toning things down, I'm still pretty noticeable. I just can't do all black suits, all the time. I love color, and I love being different, so I have to find a way to combine that with my environment.

I tried very hard to go along with Kim's inspiration for the day, but the truth of the matter is, I just don't buy prints. I have a few tops that have some sort of graphic print, but overall, meh, not so much.

So here's today's outfit. Pretty cute if I do say so myself. We are not a "casual" office, so no jeans on Friday here. But in true Mrs. Piggy fashion, I must rebel....and so, the jean jacket and denim purse it is.

AND, I made a necklace! I have decided that spending upwards of $20 in the little boutique downtown might be good for the small business owner but not so good for my wallet. I figured I could buy enough supplies for several necklaces with $20, and by adding $5, get pretty beads and things to make my own. Without further delay, here's my necklace!!

Isn't it pretty? I think I did a pretty good job for my first try. I would like to make a really long one that I wrap around twice or so, and integrate some chain, but that'll take a little practice.

New Year, Old issues...

I am such a slacker when it comes to my blog. I wish this could be my full-time job, but knowing me, things like shopping or TV would then be the reason why my posts were lagging. At any rate, I decided to blog a bit today and found that an awesome blogger read my little old blog!! I am tickled pink! Thanks so much for the encouragement Shane!!

Well, it's 2009. another year has come and gone, and the old issues from last year are still lingering. Many people make resolutions and manage to stick to them. I, however, am not one of those people. Every year I resolve to do this or that, and every year, I fail miserably and end up disappointed. This year, I resolved to not resolve. Counterintuitve perhaps, but my plan nonetheless. I love Mountain Dew, and despite my desire to be healthier, I know I will not completely give it up. So no resolutions of no soda for me. Instead, I am choosing to make lifestyle changes. People say new year, new you and this year I am "trying" to do these things:

Exercise more--my mother and I both need to lose weight. My mom is diabetic and her weight is seriously becoming a matter of life or death. In April, one week before my daughter was born, I rushed my mom to the hospital in the middle of the night, where she had emergency heart surgery. My daughter has become my mom's push to do better. I don't want to go through the same things my mom and her mom went through, and so I know to avoid it, I have to do better. Together, we have purchased a treadmill, and now there is no excuse for not walking....there's no rain, no too cold or too hot, no dogs to worry about and we don't even have to get dressed. No need to bundle up the baby and no worry of not being able to get back to the house once we've started walking. I need to lose weight not because I want to be skinny or look like women on TV, but because I want my daughter to grow up with me here, and my mom wants the same.

Be more positive--I read an article on MSN a while back written by Michelle DeAngelis, author of Get a Life That Doesn't Suck. It's very rare that I read something that makes me want to go out and buy a book, especially a self-help book. Well, let me tell you this is AMAZING. The main point Michelle drives home is that YOU are responsible for your own happiness. Sounds simple right? Kind of like "duh, everyone knows that." Well, everyone knows it, but the way Michelle puts it out there sort of smacks you in the back of the head and makes you say, "Geez, she's so right....I should really...(fill in your personal issue here)" So this year, and forevermore, I will strive to take control of my life, my feelings and my happiness. Everyone makes choices in life, and no matter what they might be we should all do like The Robinsons and "keep moving forward."

Keep family first--so much has happened to me in the past year that has made me truly appreciate my family. Yes, they get on my nerves, as I'm sure I do with them, but they are mine. Good and bad, win or lose, they are there. Family isn't always just the people you are related to by blood, they can also be those who are tied to you by circumstance or experience.....regardless, they are family. Jobs, while important, won't nurse you when you are ill, comfort you when you are sad, or hold your hand and grieve with you when dealing with loss, but family will. The money you earned while working won't make up for the fact that you didn't see your child's first game/recital/play or erase the hurt in their heart when they look into the audience and can't find you.

There's a whole host of other things I'll try to do...and while I may fail, the important thing is that I try, and keep trying.....

When life gets in the way...

OK, so in reading all of the fascinating blogs out there about other women's lives, I thought I'd start my own blog. Why exactly I thought anyone would actually read it I'm not sure, but I thought it would be fun nonetheless. One blog I regularly read is Melissa the Mouth. I don't know her from Eve, yet it feels like I do. I, along with many others, voyeuristically participate in her daily life. I know about her beautiful little girls, her love of food and books, and her obsession with Target....and I have never met her. I tune in daily to see what new website she's discovered, and what cute little something she's bought for Pea or CoCo, and wish that my life was half as interesting as hers. Today, sudden realization...my life is interesting. Maybe not to everyone, but certainly to some.

I have not blogged everyday as I thought I would because, well, sometimes life gets in the way. I work a 40+ hour work-week, then come home to take care of my 7 month old daughter, and occasionally, my mother, if she's not feeling well. I keep in touch with dear friends, work on my daughter's scrapbook, wash dishes and get ready for the next day......I stay pretty busy, and that's ok...the busy-ness of my life is part of what makes it interesting. I hear and experience things in stores or at work and often at home, that when relayed in a story, people often think I'm making up because, well really, can anyone really have a life that funny? Yep, I do....the inside jokes, the insanity of your family, really, it can be hilarious.....and while others may have the same sorts of things go on in their lives, I still think mine is pretty cool...

Shrinky Dinks!

Anyone who has had a child can tell you, losing that baby weight can be hard....REALLY hard. Unless of course, you were one of those lucky women who gained only 25 pounds and only in the belly.... I unfortunately, was not one of those women. I gained a whopping 50 pounds and after my little 7 pound 6 ounce baby was born, I didn't magically shrink back to my original figure...go figure!

Well, I am slowly working my way back down, and while I can once again wear my old pants, (as well as new ones in my old size) my body is not shaped the same. My feet have not completely returned to normal, as I still have shoes I cannot squeeze my foot into, no matter how hard I try (I miss you Betsey).

Today, however, is a small victory....I am wearing lovely pants in my old size, and my favorite knee-high Nine West lace front boots! And to top it all off, my mom told me I looked skinny! Woot!!! Today is a good day, and I think I will celebrate by buying me something pretty! Will it be the shoes I have been lusting after or a new cream eyeshadow to replace my nearly empty tube of "Wet-n-wild"? Hmm.....

I am on a slight rampage today. I subscribe to Lucky because it's a magazine all about shopping, and I am a woman all about shopping. I love getting Lucky in the mail, ripping open the plastic and knowing I am the first person to read that issue. It's euphoric, I truly love it that much. So, imagine my dismay to walk into the store and see the newest Lucky on the shelf, AND I DON'T HAVE MINE YET. Dismay increases as I talk to Shorty, who tells me she has her copy already. *grumble* I contact Lucky and they tell me it should arrive on or before October 17th. TODAY IS THE 20TH AND I DON'T HAVE MY FRIGGIN MAGAZINE!!!! Ok, no biggie, just request a new issue to be sent right? WRONG! According to Lucky, that issue is no longer being produced, so to compensate, they are extending my subscription through 2010. Lovely, but not what I wanted. I WANT MY MAGAZINE! I swear, my momma should have named me Charlie Brown......

As a woman of color with "good hair", I am often told I would be crazy to cut my hair. I've done it before, never really short though, and usually end up crying about it later. I am however, at my wit's end with it now. It has take me over 20 years to finally learn to "handle" my hair, and get it to do the things I want. It only took 9 months to completely undo everything I thought I knew. Since my daughter was born, my hair is no longer the same. Texture, color, product absorption, nothing....and I don't know what to do. Enter my mother watching one of the home shopping channels and seeing a segment on the Maxiglide. Somehow, this miracle flat iron adds steam and straightens and silkifies even the thickest, frizziest hair. Ok, I'm curious now....but $99 for a flat iron? Yeah I have one, it works, but not like the infomercial claims the Maxiglide will. So do I cough up $99 in the hopes that this is the answer or do I spend several hundreds of dollars on new products (of which, most will end up in the trash or given away)? I don't know, but I do know there are many more wigs in my future if I don't figure it out....

There are a few items that I simply cannot live without, because I love them, and for them no substitute will ever suffice. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am always in search of an improvement to a product I'm using that I just like, and it's because I want to love it.

Case in point, my lotion. I have lots of lotions; wal-mart knockoffs of Bath and Body Works, true Bath and Body Works, Vicky Secret's, random brands that can be found at any drugstore or supermarket....the list goes on and on. For me, the search for a perfect lotion is a complex one.

The lotion must blend well with my fragrance of the day

Lotion must be thick, but not too thick, and definitely not watery

Must absorb quickly, yet be moisturizing and not greasy at the same time

Must be gentle enough that it doesn't aggravate my allergies or the awful eczema I get in winter and after wearing dark rinse denim.

Am I picky? Yep.... A little neurotic? Maybe... BUT I think my search is over!

Enter Dove's Cream Oil moisturizing body lotion. It is FABULOUS! Perfect consistency, absorbs easily yet moisturizes fantastically, is not greasy, has a faint scent that smells divine alone or under my perfume and DOES NOT IRRITATE MY SKIN!!! I'm in love. So much so that I bought 2 bottles at Target last night. OK, so Target had a BOGO free coupon attached to the bottle, but I still bought it. Although it's a little pricier than the St. Ives I used to use, I think the price is soooo worth it. I give this lotion 5 squeals.
